OUR STORY

Macondo is a New Zealand–based project founded by Emily Rebolledo Ortega and Jonathan Parkins, born from a deep appreciation for the artistry, heritage, and cultural richness of Colombia.

Our feligree jewellery is made by artisans located in Mompox Colombia. This technique arrived in Colombia more than 500 years ago with the Spanish and has been practiced in communities since

This vibrant jewellery collection is handmade by the Embera Indigenous communities of Colombia, with most pieces created by  women in their collective. Each item is one-of-a-kind and carries a powerful connection to Mother Earth and the natural world, expressed through ancestral patterns and colors.

Our stunning bags are handcrafted by the Wayu people, an Indigenous community from northern Colombia. Made using the traditional crochet technique, every bag is a work of art—requiring 15 to 30 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. No two bags are the same.

Our vision for Macondo is to support and enable local communities in Colombia by giving them the opportunity to sell their crafts to a global audience.

OUR DESINGS

Macondo Filigree jewellery is a collaboration between Emily and artisans from Mompox, Colombia—a town renowned for its rich filigree tradition. Each piece is thoughtfully designed by Emily and skillfully handcrafted in Colombia, blending contemporary style with the centuries-old technique of filigree.

This partnership bridges cultures and generations, resulting in unique, meaningful jewellery  that celebrates both modern design and ancestral craftsmanship.
